In 2020, after the pandemic had hit us all, we quickly changed our business model as did many others, and finally (after another long battle with the local council – you can spot a theme here!) received planning permission for our Lavender Keepers café and shop! This meant we could properly sell our free-range pork from the farm where it is produced and invite our customers to enjoy and share our amazing view over the Somerset hills.
Unfortunately arriving too late in the season to be able to start the café that year, we continued trading from a market table in our big shed, building a loyal customers base for the following year (thank you everyone who came!). So as we all wore masks and thought about where we could and couldn’t go, The Story Pig became a safe outdoor haven with Charlotte at the head of the table!
While James continued to travel to Bath Farmer’s Market, after a few months Charlotte was much more successful at the farm itself, and we knew our decision to start the café was the right one!
